Review on πŸ”© Optimized Anodized Aluminum Extrusion in European Standard by Rob Allen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Metal chips/scratched paint, 8/8 cuts are not square and all 4 are <400mm.

Possibilities I was aware of when purchasing: There are a few burrs on the ends and metal shavings clinging to the protective coating which others have warned me about, thank them for that as I knew it one is possibility that I enter. I can see some scratches on the paintwork from these shavings. I rinsed them with hot water to remove any shavings stuck in the rail so the paint didn't look problematic, as one reviewer noted. Be careful when removing the thin protective plastic layer, use gloves or tweezers to remove it. What I didn't know before buying: If you need exactly 400mm, ask the seller if you need 400mm or a little more. The ones I received (4 packs of 400mm) are not all the same length and none fit the advertised 400mm size. 399mm or 398mm. This is due to incorrect neckline and/or incorrect end loops/loops. This doesn't bother me as what I use them for needs to be trimmed down to 380mm or could be offset by the design process. But the whole point is why they only get 4 stars. What worries me: When manufacturing a precision product like aluminum profiles I find it important to consider the surface finish of the ends and at least one end must be β‰ˆ square which adds a millimeter or 2 in the cutting process. In general, just give a little more than the buyer expects, that's my motto, certainly not less. I would message the seller if you require = 400mm and not β‰ˆ 400mm to see if they are willing or even able to accommodate that request, or just go with the next size up. I have my doubts about the former as it is a Revain Prime product and is most likely just waiting in the Revain warehouse to be sliced off the shelf months in advance. TLDR; Buy 500mm if you want 400mm profiles that are smaller than 400mm and not square on any of the 8 ends (whether due to an uncalibrated saw blade or a grinding/deburring process, who knows). When trimming, make sure you line up the end before taking off the final size. If you need this for 395mm I would go for 500mm and deal with scrap as you will probably cut off more than you hope by squaring the ends. Article in my review, this is a 5 star product for you. PS I will update later when I think about durability, straightness and overall quality but the stars can only drop from here as I received a product that is smaller than I expected.
