I just bought this product with some trepidation after reading some of the other reviews. My experiences are almost exclusively positive. While I found the packaging unnecessarily cluttered (i.e. all layered boxes in another box popularized by Apple), the item arrived intact and was easy to install. FWIW, I use Apple's Plain Leather Protector on my iPhone 6 so connecting it was easy. You have to turn the camera on before using it, apparently there is no auto-detection after plugging it in and turning it on. But if you overcome this little problem, App Store will appear and some app suggestions will be listed for camera only. I chose the official FLIR software and moisture checker and was out of the running. The images the camera produces are delicate - MSX mode uses feedback from the visual illumination camera to compensate for the fewer pixels the IR camera has to produce. sharper image than IR camera. However, this mode benefits greatly from lots of ambient light, as the FLIR lacks a backlight LED and the camera has 2010 low-light performance with visual illumination. So ideally, either work in daylight or bring objects to replicate daylight. The camera also has some lag when taking a picture, so stationary subjects work best. I agree with other reviewers that the connection seems a bit fragile. That's not the bond I would leave on the camera climbing under the foundation or in the attic. Instead, I would mount it in place for each image. Thankfully, both lenses are slightly recessed, which should protect them from damage in the event of a fall to the ground. However, I don't want to drop it while it's connected to my phone! The battery gauge issue mentioned in other posts seems to be fixed, mine seemed accurate enough. Yes, the system consumes a lot of power, so plan short rather than long photo sessions. That's good enough for consumers, as professionals can probably justify the higher cash for a standalone FLIR C2 or FLIR C3 series. Oddly enough, both the C2 and C3 have 1/4 lower resolution than the FLIR ONE Pro (80x60 versus 160x120 pixels). I did notice some minor parallax issues between the two cameras, expect MSX mode to produce some interesting offset images. especially when your objects are moving. The IR camera in particular is quite slow to update. But it's funny when everyone stays where they are. Unfortunately, FLIR ONE PRO doesn't support pass-through charging (which would be ideal), so you'll need to charge your FLIR and iPhone separately (a USB-C to USB-A charging cable for FLIR is included, but you'll need a charger ). This way you have more cables, but at least you have a handy pocket to store your camera and cable. I did not have to register with FLIR to use the product, but I may be missing some features. Something to explore. In any case, the cost of this product is so low compared to its benefits that I recommend anyone considering a major overhaul to buy it. You'll find hot water pipes in walls, floor heating loops, cold spots with missing insulation, etc. and the tool pays for itself quickly in terms of damage prevention when you're trying to find infrastructure hidden in walls. It's helpful too. Visualizing maintenance issues like a clogged HVAC coil, drafts in doors and windows, or even hot spots in electrical panels, appliances, etc. I'm currently using it to review how our home is performing ten years after our internal work. The tool costs less than an audit (in areas where audits are not subsidized by local utilities) and allows you to "see" where your money is going. In general I am very satisfied with the product. My only gripe is that it can't be mounted on the iPhone like the older generation (which makes the device easier to work with overall). But I also understand why FLIR went down this route - they want to be able to use iPhones in a wide range of form factors, from 4.7 to 5.8 inches. I'm also a bit disappointed that pass-through loading isn't supported. But aside from those two issues, this is a very attractive product.
