When we moved we packed our "permanent" coasters which were meant to be around for a few weeks. I decided to buy some disposable coasters as I've had a few in the past that have worked really well. In general they are fine. They absorb moisture well and retain their firmness, but absorb moisture quickly. My daughter left her drink overnight. The next day, instead of the ring-shaped watermark on the wood, there was a much larger coaster-sized disc-shaped watermark on the table. and the coasters are swapped between guests, they probably work fine. For home use, if you can have a cold drink or three throughout the day, your furniture could be at risk.
