We bought one of these to try on our reconnaissance and wildlife viewing day trips - and we love it - especially the ability to get up close to come focus. It weighs only 2.1 ounces in a suitcase and takes up little space in a backpack. The strength of the seven is the maximum most people can handle due to the shaky grip (that's 8X). An 18mm lens only gives an exit pupil of 2.6mm (18Γ·7) at this magnification. This corresponds very well to the pupil diameter of the human eye in daylight, but at night it is about half the diameter (i.e. 1/4 of the area) of the human pupil. For evening/night use you will need a 35mm or larger 7x lens, but then it will be much larger and heavier. For the price paid and the design meant for the day I don't think you can beat it.
