Review on MagnaFlow Universal Catalytic Converter 99205HM - Stainless Steel, Federal/EPA Compliant, 2.25in Diameter, 13in Length, No O2 Sensor - HM Grade Replacement by Jay Maryland

Used on 2003 Toyota Corolla. Mileage by car 575000km. Consumed oil at an increasing rate. There was a P0420 code that just wouldn't go away after replacing the engine. O2 and MAF sensors replaced. In Canada they wanted about 1000 Canadian dollars plus taxes for a new cat and a new exhaust pipe. Not to mention the cost of installing an old 2003 car. My exhaust was fine, but the coil was badly charred and just stopped working. Seeing other comments about using a MagnaFlow boiler in a Toyota and confirming that it works on my car inspired me to get to work and save money! The cat was $58 with free shipping and I cut the flange off the old cat and cut the pipe to connect to the old exhaust pipe. Bought a piece of 2 1/8" exhaust pipe for $3.68 to connect the coil and pipe internally. I put it on the machine and put everything together, noting the angles and orientation of the flange, the coil itself and so on .Parts to a local weld shop and they MIG welded it for CA$10.Total cost was about CA$100 (about US$80) with a new exhaust manifold gasket.Set code P0420 using the Torque app on your smartphone and adapter back. The car drove about 45 miles and then took it for an 'electronic test'. Perfect pass. Note that this does not work in all situations. If my new engine were to use heavy fuel oil, I would doubt the CEL deactivated would be. long and probably would not pass the electronic test. with a cat, works great. Now the Corolla has over 600,000 km. about 625,000 km.*** UPDATE 04/03/2021*** One more year. Unfortunately this does not work for COVID-19. The car is now at 640,000+ and NO CEL. This will most likely be the last update!
