This is my fourth kit in the last few decades (although my first with this Hive shape) and I wouldn't use anything else. The glass is extremely durable and easy to clean, while the plastic flip-top lid with a gusset in the rim protects against moisture and makes the shaker virtually waterproof. After many, many years of use, the cap is usually the part that wears out and cracks, but for all its benefits, I feel its cost is definitely more than justified. As a tip, I also regularly empty my shaker completely. Since the hinge on the lid is very strong, I pop it open and stick a toothpick in from side to side, serving as a wedge for several hours. This allows the inside to dry completely so there is no residual moisture before I refill it and it doesn't affect the spring hinge in any way. I hope they never go out of production.
