I had a very old computer at home that we used as a print server. It also had a large floppy disk drive that we used for backups. This old computer was never used as a PC. He was big, ugly and in the way. I bought a new Linksys router (WRT-600) with a USB hard drive port and plugged the replacement hard drive into the router. If I could find a wireless print server, I could give up my old computer. After reading all the reviews, I was skeptical that a good device even existed. But after several months of successful use, I have to say that this device works perfectly with my HP Laserjet 1022 and three laptops in my house. Unlike many home wireless products, the Wireless-G print server performs very well. As noted by several reviewers, you need to set up a printer on your PC before installing the print server. Since all the computers in the house are laptops, it was quite easy to connect the PC to the printer to install the driver. I have worked with several wireless products from Linksys and Netgear. It was the first product for which Easy Install actually worked. The program found my router and connected the print server. He then installed the server program on my computers. The server program is in my taskbar. I don't really know much about it because it's always green. The installation was error-free for a Vista machine and two XP machines. Linksys includes all the cables you need, even an Ethernet cable that you only use once for a few minutes when setting up a print server on your router. It's nice. Here are my caveats.* I don't have a scanner or fax, so I don't use those features. I can't tell you how they work.* The USB driver for the LaserJet 1022 is very simple. For example, it doesn't try to tell me how much ink I have left.* I had no trouble with a simple install. I have no idea how well a manual install would work or how good the tech support would be. However, I can say that I had a good experience with tech support for my Linksys WRT-600 when the automatic installer didn't work. * After all, I'm in a semi-rural area. I don't use WEP, WPA or MAC filters; and I broadcast my SSID. Therefore, I cannot say from personal experience how using these security features will affect operation or installation. I changed the router's IP address from the default. It hasn't caused any problems at all. I cannot address all of the issues raised by others in these reviews. But I can say that the device works well for me. The printer is always available from all my PCs.
