I had to replace the carburetor on my Stihl 170 chainsaw because the diaphragm in the old saw was not working properly. The replacement went smoothly and the chainsaw started after a few jerks. It was easy to adjust the speed to keep the chain from moving when idling. Update after 2.5 years. I had to replace the carburetor again. With heavy use, either the rubber membrane or the membrane wears out over time. I bought another carburetor (the price doesn't bite!) and installed it in half an hour. The saw caught fire after a few jerks and the speed can be easily regulated with the throttle screw. The MS170 is designed for light work, but mine gets a heavy load on a weekly basis. I'm not surprised that the small carburetor is "tired" after a few years.
