Review on πŸ”¬ EISCO High-Precision Quantitative Spectroscope: Guaranteeing Accurate Results by Will Ridpath

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Inexpensive and upgradable by the buyer. Better than the diffraction grating itself.

I liked that this spectroscope was cheap. It can be improved by cleaning the gap where there was excess plastic from the injection molding. The next improvement was to make a narrower slit using two pieces of aluminum foil taped over the slit, using straight foil edges closer together than the existing slit. These pieces could also be moved to change the size of the gap. I chose this instead of razor blades to protect my daughter. Then I plan to carefully open it and tape the inside with black felt or matte black tape. Reflections within the box produce additional spectra that can overlap with the spectrum of interest and cause confusion.

Pros
  • Measures wavelengths from 400.0 to 700.0 nm for detailed studies.
Cons
  • unreliable
