So the problem was great, removing the ball was a pain but I won't say I'm an expert on the subject. It was quite tight, I had to wait to attach the hitch to the car so I could tuck it in to remove the ball. I used a massive adjustable wrench above and a special long wrench specifically for ball nut removal. I slowly took it off, I put on some PB Blaster beforehand to loosen it up a few days before. The nut was reusable but still I'm glad I don't intend to do this every day or I would have bought two of these or one of these multiballs. So yes, 9" was advertised and it's definitely 6". It still works for me, but I'd be really pissed if I expected a different size and didn't get it. In general, I'm a happy tourist!
