I was surprised at how great this thing is! I bought this 7x18mm monocular and the following two 10x25mm monoculars to compare: Orion 08447 10x25 E-Series Monocular (Black) Celestron UpClose G2 10x25 Monocular, Black (71213) I'm sure if I want more magnification on the 10 x 25mm monocular. Here's a picture comparing the sizes and my score out of three. I didn't compare them on a cloudy day with less available light.1. Carson 7 x 18 mm: length 2.75 inches, weight 46 grams including strap. Includes case, lanyard and cleaning cloth. Surprisingly easy to focus. Beautiful bright pictures. Long-tailed buzzard through a monocular. I also really liked the close focus function for observing objects on the ground. 2. Celestron 10 x 25mm: 4.45 inches long, 106 grams including strap. Comes with case, wrist strap and cleaning cloth. I preferred this monocular to the Orion. I found it easier to concentrate. However, the field of view appears smaller than Carson's, possibly due to the higher magnification. When I tried to follow the hawk, he felt a shudder. Although the bird's magnification was greater, I think it would be more difficult for me to identify it in motion.3. Orion 10x25mm: 4.25 inches long, 88 grams with strap. Including case, hand strap and cleaning cloth. Orion had the best documentation explaining how to understand the differences in optics. However, I found the focusing mechanism to be stiffer than two other monoculars. I'm keeping the Carson monocular for a 525-mile hike next year. I like the size and weight, but more importantly, I found that it actually fits the Easiest to use... with a monocular that runs quietly and has enough magnification for my purposes. I will use it both outdoors and indoors to look at ceiling details. The four stars show that I haven't fully exploited it yet. Once I have done this I will update my review as appropriate.
