Review on πŸ”΅ Blue Ox BX1126 Base Plate: Sleek, Dependable Black Design by Jeremy Sabey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good guide, moderately complicated, saved a lot!

I installed a Blue OX skid plate on my 2012 Jeep Wrangler. Everything went perfectly. The guide was great. The quality of all parts is really good. I took my time. Measure seven times, cut once, as the saying goes. Installation, including removing the bumper and modifying the oil pan, took four to five hours. If I had to do it a second time it would be closer to two hours. I was really impressed with the fit of everything and the easy instructions. I would rate the complexity of the project a 3 or 4/10. Tighten the first two screws, just enough to hold them in place but loose enough that the alignment can be adjusted (I used a rubber mallet to align them). The instructions say to keep it paced, but I didn't have to. Carefully mark four holes and drill small pilot holes, then increase to 1/2 inch in small increments. complete set for an unusual size. I used 1/2 inch and everything fit perfectly. Make sure you have a 150 ft lb (min) torque wrench and red Loctite. A thumbtack puller isn't strictly necessary, but it definitely makes life easier. I used a razor blade to carefully score the pan and it fits perfectly with smooth edges. Others suggest using a Dremel. I saved a lot of money because someone else did it.
