Significant rust and corrosion issues

I bought this in May 2018 and installed it mid June 2018. This level of rusting after less than a year of use is unacceptable. The Jeep it is mounted on, a 2012 model, has lived its entire life in a salt belt and there is less rust on the Jeep's undercarriage than on this baseplate. I chose this handlebar mount because it is less obtrusive than the Roadmaster system. Now it looks awful, the paint is peeling off in huge chunks. I intend to contact Blue Ox for the warranty as I am concerned about

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Great but. for towing items and winches

I have a 2017 JKU Jeep. After removing the front bumper and beginning the installation, I found that the wiz nuts did NOT go through the holes in the front bumper mounting plate, the holes were too small, and/or the wiz nuts were too big. For real? At this point you have two options: #1) grind the wiz nut to go through the hole in the plate, or #2) grind the slot in the hole in the plate to allow the wiz nut to go through the frame fits. I think option 2) is the best. The grinding of the nut…

So far so good, now you have to tow it.

Arrived as expected, well packaged. No dents or scratches. Installed exactly as described on a 2016 Wrangler Sport Unlimited 4x4. Couldn't find a 17/32" drill bit as directed in the instructions but used a 1/2" drill bit and it fitted perfectly. If the emergency stop sensor is fitted under the bumper after the towbar has been installed, it will fit snugly between the towbar and the bumper. There is also an obstruction on the driver's side that makes it difficult to remove the inner bumper nuts.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Better packaging needed / wrong item

Product looks good but not as packaged! You know damn well that no shipping company would treat every product with care. The box was damaged upon delivery, both ends were sticking out of the box. I didn't see any chipping on the paintwork or edges so I figured I survived. When installed, it did not slip into the frame. As you can see I added a frame square on both sides and folded both sides. Now I need to figure out how to straighten them without cracking or chipping the finish and possibly…

Fits 2015 Jeep JKU, EAG vehicles.

I have a JKU 2015 installed secondary bumper with winch. Blue Ox makes two JKU Flat Tow Baseplates. 1126 and 1134. 1134 is supposed to fit a few aftermarket bumpers but since my JKU already had a front hitch receiver installed with lots of clearance between it and my bumper I figured 1126 should fit. Of course I removed the curt from the hitch receiver and installed the 1126 with no problem. The instructions are simple and recommend watching a few YouTube videos for the installation. Drilling…

  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • A few small things

Good guide, moderately complicated, saved a lot!

I installed a Blue OX skid plate on my 2012 Jeep Wrangler. Everything went perfectly. The guide was great. The quality of all parts is really good. I took my time. Measure seven times, cut once, as the saying goes. Installation, including removing the bumper and modifying the oil pan, took four to five hours. If I had to do it a second time it would be closer to two hours. I was really impressed with the fit of everything and the easy instructions. I would rate the complexity of the project a 3

We purchased a Blue Ox BX1126 skid plate, a Blue Ox BX7365 Alpha 6500lb hitch and a Blue Ox BX88231 Aventa LX hitch accessory kit for our 2011 Wrangler. These guys really thought of this setup, if they hadn't attached the wire to the nuts I would have been scratching my ass for a while. My best recommendation is to have access to an elevator instead of lying on the garage floor. The hardest part was removing the skid plate and bumper from the jeep. We spent a lot of time salvaging the six push…
