I got this because we go hiking a few times a year and my boys love to explore but my knees hurt and I get tired easily . They're getting close to the age (they're 9 year old twins) where they can explore a bit on their own, but that makes me nervous. We used walkie-talkies, but when I ask them where they are, they say something like "right by the big tree!". *sigh* This will pinpoint exactly where they are so I can track them, giving me peace of mind. I know it works because my sister, an avid hiker, lent it over the weekend right after buying it and put it on her dog, who is allowed to walk the trail off-leash. Sometimes she spots the creature and runs away, causing my sister to run after her to keep an eye on her. She said she was able to find her when she spotted the rabbit and ran away. She also installed an electric fence and could tell if she was too far behind. She didn't have to keep stopping and waiting to sniff everything she touched. She could go ahead and make sure she wasn't too far behind. So I'm glad she borrowed it, now she wants it, but I suspect she'll keep borrowing mine.
