Review on RS999266 Rancho RS9000XL Shock Absorber by Jarod Lacy

Revainrating 3 out of 5

In heavy vehicles, they wear out quickly and control valves stick.

I fitted the first set to my 2003 Ford Excursion (4x4, V10) in 2014, both front and rear. The front damper adjuster valves got stuck in our northern climate for a number of years, probably from road salt, and within four years and 39,000 miles they had to be replaced. The rear wheels have done five years and 47,000 miles and the valves have frozen just like the front wheels. I applied for a rear warranty from Rancho and got new shocks through Revain. It's been about four and a half years and 35,000 miles on the fronts since the replacement, and they've been removed. The stiffness setting is maxed out and they're still springing, it's time for a change. The rear wheels are about 3 years old and have 27,000 miles on them, they seem fine. All of the control valves still work, so it looks like Rancho has fixed that issue. I buy new expensive tires so I'll swap them out for another brand, Skyjacker Black Max. People seem to like the Black Max on outings, and it's about $30 less for a single shock. Overall, the shocks should last more miles than these ranchos, especially given the premium they charge. The ride is decent once you dial it in, but can be harsh at higher settings.
