inexpensive alternative for reliably crimping larger wires

I would have preferred a good quality hex crimp tool but my budget dictated otherwise so I was hesitant to buy this tool as I expected it to produce rough but acceptable crimps power. After being used for multiple crimps, it has exceeded those expectations. I've used it with 2 AWG and 4 AWG wires, as well as slightly smaller 2 and 4 gauge wires. The crimps are very secure and pass rigorous pull tests, I don't expect any problems. At first I wasn't sure how hard and how many times to hit it, but when used on a very hard surface the "feel" of the hit seems to change once the crimping is complete. It wasn't until AFTER my first few crimps that I realized that the numbers on the side of the locking pin indicate how far to drive the pin in for 3/0 AWG, 1/0 AWG, 4 AWG, and 8 AWG wire, I imagine. could be a useful feature. The bottom of the tool is shaped to crimp the bottom half of the connection very well. The top part of the corrugation isn't as pretty because it forms a shallow circular indentation with a cross inside. While less clean looking than a good hex crimp tool, it doesn't distort the connection width too much and provides a very secure crimp. I would hesitate to use this type of crimp for making battery connector cables as I expect the resistance of the connections can be less than constant, but I believe the connections are more than capable of handling high currents in all modes to lead. Situations that do not require the most accurate balancing. The attached photos show the shape of the bottom crimping surface and the size and design of the tool. I added the shrink tubing before deciding to add the photos, so I don't have pictures of the connections at the moment. I'll try to remember to add something next time I use this tool. In summary, I would recommend this tool for crimping line/load cables, but for battery terminal cables I would personally prefer to either buy or rent pre-terminated cables. /Purchase a suitable crimping tool.
