4/0 Wire: I couldn't get the wire out of the eyelet after crimping

Carefully performing a test crimp on a very thin 4/0 twisted pair wire with a vise. And then I tried to pull the cord out of the top. NO WAY! Couldn't. Then I sawed the tab to see what the inside looks like. Wow - like solid copper. And I still couldn't get the strands of the cable out of the grommet even though I cut it in half. I was impressed. I used to always solder cables. With this method I'm starting to think I don't need to solder anymore.

Surprisingly effective when used in a vise

Requires 30 crimps of 6 AWG and 8 AWG wire. I used to use an online ordering service (and was happy) but had to have a custom length when I went. I didn't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a good hydraulic swaging tool (or even $100s for a lousy one) so I decided to give this a try. VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. Use in a vise like other reviews have suggested, use the large bar on the vise handle to apply a good even pressure and you'll get a very strong crimp. Use good ferrules, apply…

The box is the weakest point.

In general I liked these crimpers. I had to use larger 1/0 4awg wire and it worked fine. The hammer bar is too small for the chamber, so it sometimes gets caught on the sides when struck with a hammer. You'll need something like a flathead screwdriver to pry it back off. The main issue I have is that after about 30 grommets in the last 18 months the pin on the back has completely broken off. This doesn't scrap the whole tool, but it does make it a bit awkward to use now that the spring no…

  • Not bad

I bought a pair of crimping pliers for a little work. it was cheap but it was a small job. Sufficient for 4 crimps. So I ordered a TEMCo Hammer Lug Crimper Tool to complete the job. It arrived a day early with a 1 year money back guarantee and worked great the first time. The tool is heavy enough not to move and has a spring that holds the connector in the tool. I didn't attach it to the bench, nor did I think I needed it. All I needed was a solid surface to rest the tool on, as any bouncing…

RV wiring upgrade. Great little tool! Works perfect!

Bought to make my own aftermarket RV wiring cables. Worth every penny. It's smaller than expected but pretty sturdy. I've made some cables using 4/0 weld wire, 2 AWG weld wire, 1 AWG Thhn, and 6 AWG stranded wire. This crimper did it all. Pro Tip: Use good quality copper ferrules that are appropriate for the gauge of wire you are crimping. Find a solid surface, concrete or steel will do. Use a small 2-4 pound sled that is comfortable to steer with one hand. Hold the tip firmly against the wire…

inexpensive alternative for reliably crimping larger wires

I would have preferred a good quality hex crimp tool but my budget dictated otherwise so I was hesitant to buy this tool as I expected it to produce rough but acceptable crimps power. After being used for multiple crimps, it has exceeded those expectations. I've used it with 2 AWG and 4 AWG wires, as well as slightly smaller 2 and 4 gauge wires. The crimps are very secure and pass rigorous pull tests, I don't expect any problems. At first I wasn't sure how hard and how many times to hit it, but
