Improvements over the previous version, the best vertically foldable phone priced at

This is the latest version of Samsung's Z Flip series. The previous version was the Z Flip 5G (2020) and there are significant improvements in this version compared to last year. I'll review the updates in this version, as well as the general pros and cons I noticed while testing the phone: Updates in this version: Gorilla Glass Victus (previous version was Gorilla Glass6) IPX8 water resistance (previous version was not waterproof ) Home screen - Now 120Hz, 1200 nits brightness (was 60Hz, max 596 nits) Lid display is now 1.9" (was 1.1") Snapdragon 888 chip (was 865) Stereo speakers Fast wireless charging and PowerSharePROS -Support: - Improvements to the display lid: The display on the lid is now larger and shows significantly more information than the previous version. Now you can swipe to show notifications or even some widgets. Overall, this screen protector is still not as good as Motorola's new Razr in my opinion, but it's a big improvement over last year's Z-Flip design. Flex mode: You can now force apps to run in flex mode when the phone is folded at a 90 degree angle. Some apps support this mode natively, others you can force it in settings. Forcing the use of flex mode will move the app to the top half of the screen and add some options to the bottom half such as: B. Buttons for taking screenshots and adjusting the brightness. I still only use the phone in this 90 degree folded mode for video calls, but it's nice to see that other apps are supported too. Size: Is your current phone too big to fit in most of your pockets? Then Samsung has designed this phone especially for you. The ability to fold it into a small, palm-sized shape is this phone's biggest selling point. If you absolutely need a foldable phone, you can't beat this value. CONS: Battery: The brighter 120Hz screen really drains this phone's battery. If I use this phone quite a bit during the day, by the end of the day it's almost exhausted. The 3300mAh battery seems really short and I often worry about having to charge it during the day to keep it from running out. Meaning: If you look at the specs of this phone compared to other phones, you still pay a bit more to be able to fold the phone to a smaller size. There are phones out there right now that are literally better at everything and cost about the same or even a little less than this phone (e.g. S21Ultra). However, Samsung has invested quite a bit in this phone and if you MUST have a vertically foldable tiny phone, this phone is by far the best at the moment in my opinion; It's faster, more reliable, lighter, and has a better internal screen and battery than the Razr, which is probably the main competitor in this form factor. GENERAL THOUGHTS: This is a pretty good phone for everyday use, but I would have a hard time recommending this phone to other options currently on the market, except in a few specific cases. The cameras are actually not bad, but not outstanding either. Of course, the biggest advantage of this phone is that it folds down to such a small size. From the looks of it, it fits in robe pockets, so I think if you wear robes all day and still want to carry a good phone with you, this is a great option. The only other real benefit of the feature is the fact that you can half open the Z Flip3 to a 90 degree angle and use it in flex mode. This allows you to use the built-in tripod feature, which is especially useful for video calls. It's pretty satisfying to sit on a table like a laptop with your phone and still have the selfie camera pointed at you for video calls, but you'll have to decide if it's worth the other sacrifices you're making with this phone . For example, the S21 Ultra 5G currently costs the same price; but comes with MUCH better cameras, more RAM, better battery life, faster charging, S Pen support, and anti-dust protection. At the moment it seems like you're making some pretty big sacrifices to be able to fold the phone down to a smaller size. but if it's very important to you, then it might be worth it. I don't have many major complaints about the phone, but I still prefer my S21Ultra 5G for the better cameras and battery.

Pros
  • All your notifications, front and center: manage your phone even when it's closed; The Galaxy Z Flip3 notifies you on an external screen so you can view notifications and check the weather
Cons
  • Slightly dented
