Martingale collars work like choke collars but without the metal. This is nylon. People just need to adjust the fit so that the collar is almost snug (you can slide two fingers between the collar and the dog's neck). When properly adjusted for the dog, the martingale collar is just as secure as a regular collar. It's actually safer because dogs CANNOT slip out of a martingale collar because it contracts when you put it on. I bought this one because I always take my dog's collar off as a precaution when I put him in the crate. This wasn't difficult with a buckleless martingale collar because you first have to loosen the fit and then take it off. With this martingale collar with buckle, I can easily open it. And it's also easy to slip back on as you don't have to adjust the fit as the fit stays the same with the buckle. Since you must loosen the regular martingale collar to remove it, you must tighten the regular martingale collar after putting it back on. This martingale buckle saves a lot of time and is more secure than the normal way as I can't be lazy and forget to put the collar back on after putting it on. The best possible investment in your dog's safety and comfort. how the collars go, IMHO.
