Size table suitable for collars, harnesses and leashes

The description does not indicate a size. That's what I assumed based on the size. I ordered the small ones which luckily fit my two shelties. Their neck sizes are 11 inches and 13 inches. The size chart states: Petite (5" - 8"), Small (8" - 12"), Medium (10" - 16"), Large (14" - 20"). I'm just glad I ordered the little one. The environments would be too big. Therefore, when ordering, order one size smaller than indicated in the table. Hope that helps. :)

Thumbs up for a quick shot!

Quick release solves everything! Our pup came at us with a martingale with no quick click and it hurt, especially when he was so dodgy! It also has a small plastic loop for attaching a charm - a subtle but nice touch. Note. In natural light, red appears rosier than expected. When you see this in stores, fluorescent lights make the red color darker than it really is. Still a cute color for our nearly 4 month old 22 lb lifeguard! He wears a small 3/4 collar.

Good collar - SIZE CHART

I love martingale collars and have bought several over the years. Material wise this is a durable and affordable collar but like other reviews the sizing chart is misleading. I bought a large for my 55 lb Pitbull mix. His neck is around 16.5 inches long and the size is definitely on the big side. In the photo, the collar is adjusted to the smallest possible circumference and my finger is hooked very loosely underneath. Luckily I have another big dog that might need it otherwise I would have…

Great martingale, LOVE the quick release feature!

The first time my dog slipped off the collar on the 3rd day after he was rescued we went straight to Martingale as I didn't want to risk his life and couldn't live with me if I let that something happened to him. This is the one we picked up at our local big pet store specifically for the quick release feature. That was over 3.5 years ago. About 2 months ago I bought an additional board "just in case" at a great price. I'm glad I did because one side of the plastic clip broke off last night…

When life gives you lemons and 16-wheelers get it.

My crazy dog is the love of my life, the only problem is that she loves squirrels, hates public buses and big trucks, especially 16 wheelers. Unfortunately, she is a very strong German Shepherd/Labrador/Pitbull hybrid weighing 62 pounds. When one of these things is near, it will tug and tug. We've even had various instances including her leash popping right out of her jerks and she's partially preoccupied with mastering the escape from any harness or regular collar. This collar saves my hands…

Order a size down on collars, harnesses and leashes

Our Goldendoodle is 11" tall and is medium sized at 5 months and fits the 10-16" size chart. TOO LARGE! Thank goodness it's getting bigger and it should fit right in for the next few months. Ordered a SMALL that should fit and do the job right. Martingale collar for this gentler breed. Our Rottweilers use choke chains (made in Germany). I followed the advice of other reviews who recommended going down a size. At "full pull" a collar of this size will compress into a normal collar. with enough…

Dogs LOVE THIS COLLAR

Martingale collars work like choke collars but without the metal. This is nylon. People just need to adjust the fit so that the collar is almost snug (you can slide two fingers between the collar and the dog's neck). When properly adjusted for the dog, the martingale collar is just as secure as a regular collar. It's actually safer because dogs CANNOT slip out of a martingale collar because it contracts when you put it on. I bought this one because I always take my dog's collar off as a…

Size Attention!: Collars, harnesses and leashes

There are too many size confusions with this article. Hope that helps! I bought my 40 lb AmStaff/Heeler mix based on other reviews which is way too big. Here's the problem - the dimensions given by the manufacturer do not include the additional length of the strap! The label provided indicates the length: Petite 7-9 inches, Small 9-11 inches, Medium 11-15 inches, Large 13-20 inches. All wrong! The medium-sized tension band adds another 3.5 inches when relaxed. My dog size is 13.5 inches just…

Do not use a plastic label holder.

Overall a pretty good collar. I have four dogs and two of them must have a martingale collar because they can slip out of any other collar or harness in 30 seconds or less. I bought two for my 20 lb dog and two for my 10 lb dog. This morning while rushing to get my dogs out the door for a morning walk, I accidentally caught the leash on a 10lb dog tag ring that was attached to the black plastic dog tag ring on the collar. At one point on our walk I stopped and had a look and my small 10 lb dog…

Buy a size down for basic collars

Our Goldendoodle is 11 inches tall and at 5 months he has an average height fitting 10-16 inches according to the size chart. THIS IS TOO BIG! Thank goodness it's getting bigger and it should fit right in over the next few months. Ordered the SMALL one, it should fit and do its job properly. Would have given 5 stars if the size had been right from the start. For this, better use this martingale collar softer breeds. Our Rottweilers use choke chains (Made in Germany). Should have taken the…
