Over a year ago I swapped my factory Shimano XT M8000 11-40t cassette for a Sunrace 11-46t block. At the time I didn't think I needed Goatlink and for some reason I thought I read that it wasn't necessary. Anyway, my bike rode fine most of the time with the new cassette, but I kept messing with the derailleur indexing because my bike didn't always seem to shift properly. I added this Goatlink along with a new derailleur cable and chain and adjusted the hanger. I don't know what the biggest difference was, but my bike now rides like new. Goatlink seemed to make a big difference when I got into chainwrap, and it certainly seems like an integral part of the 'proper' transition to a big cassette. I'm glad I bought it.
