Not particularly soft. Maybe the pile is a little smaller than a regular adult washcloth, but I have regular, softer ones. Strange smell. All new fabrics and garments are "glued" to keep their shape and not make them as soft as they really are; Since these were so cheap I decided to just wash them - the smell came out but not softened enough for a baby washcloth. At the same time, I use mine for the face, not the kid - I just really wanted ones that weren't pastels or embroidered. I'll stick to my plain white baby washcloths and towels. I don't remember the brand, but it's a big, common one. and continue my search.
