Ideal for beginners

I've wanted a Dremel for a long time, although I only need one every ten years or so. When repairing old furniture that I had patched with plastic, I found I had to sand and shape the patches I made. Finally, I couldn't find any reason not to get it. I went for the cheapest model I could find, which is this one. Attaching the attachments was a bit of a hassle with the included small wrench, but not bad once I figured out how to use it. Luckily the wrench has a hole in the middle so I can tie it to a string so I don't lose it. Having never used a Dremel before, I've found that I have close control of the rotating sanding tip and get it spinning to get the exact shape. I wanted it to be difficult. And still it was fun! It's pretty light and that little tip spins faster than I thought at 35,000rpm so all I had to do was lightly touch the surface I was shaping with the tip and it smoothed and smoothed it out. One wrong move, like touching the wrong spot on a cabinet I was working on, and I had to redecorate a new place. Now I will look for other projects where this wonderful tool can be used. I especially can't wait to try the tiny saw attachment. I can trade it in for a more expensive model for variable speed and easier cleat attachment, although that's not a problem after using it a few times to get the hang of it. Also, have some compressed air handy after you've used it to blow the dust out of the large side vents, as you definitely don't want that dust to stay around those vents and get into the motor. Some goggles are also a good idea as the dust they create gets everywhere, including in your eyes. This is a very good inexpensive Dremel, but if you can justify it I recommend getting a higher quality model for easier tip attachment and variable speed.
