Review on S27A950D 27" Samsung Monitor: Full HD, 3D Display, LS27A950DS/ZA by Eric Diaz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent monitor --- the product shown on this page is not "D "

First, Revain can mix their products. There is a normal 950 and 950D. If you look, you'll see that Revain captioned 950 here: [.] There's also a nearly $100 price difference between the two. One model is equipped with a coaxial input, a TV tuner, two HDMI inputs, Samsung apps and more. This 950 only has 1 HDMI, 1 Displayport and 1 dual-link DVI plus a headphone jack and doesn't come with Samsung apps. CNET has a video report here [.] and calls this model the 950D when they show the back of the monitor and the many different inputs. I just checked my bottom and it's not even close. And your link is to the Revain 950 page. When I bought this I didn't realize there was a difference. If I understand that, then maybe I would pay extra money for other connections. Still, I love this monitor. I have a Panasonic BDT300 3D Blu-ray player connected to HDMI. 3D looks amazing. It's also a very thin monitor. If I had a real problem with it, it would be the base. It's huge and designed to sit right on the table. I also have a Radeon 4870X2 graphics card. 3D with PowerDVD10 and Totalmedia Theater 5 does not work with this graphics card. To get 3D for movies with a computer, you need a graphics card from the Radeon 5000 series or higher. My understanding is that this monitor is also not compatible with Nvidia graphics cards. I bought and tested a Radeon 5450. Of course, 3D works with this card in Powerdvd and Totalmedia, but not on my 4870X2. I haven't noticed much 3D improvement with this card compared to my Panasonic Blu-ray player, so I'll stick with the Blu-ray player. Designation "D". It is marked 950 on the front stand of this monitor. The white sticker on the back indicates the 950D model. The box on the white sticker is also marked with the letter "D". Maybe the D stands for Displayport or DVI, which is what this monitor has. The other monitor, regardless of label, does not have DVI and may not have a display port. CNET refers to this other monitor as "D". Maybe CNET is wrong, not Revain (I relied on them when watching the video). So there is some confusion in labeling. This monitor is advertised as silver. The box label said "black" and in fact the entire monitor is black but the large stand is silver. TriDef software is included for gaming. This software plays games in 3D on any graphics card using a method called parallel. (But the frame sequencing method is only compatible with Radeon 5000 series cards and above). I tried Bulletstorm for a few minutes and the game was 3D but not playable. It was impossible to play because I maxed out the game settings and it was too much. In order to play such a game, it is necessary to significantly lower the game's graphics settings. Another disadvantage is the cost. This is a very expensive monitor. Perhaps that would be justified if it were actually a 27-inch TV, as the 950D appears to be. I don't know if the D has a display port or DVI. So if you're using it as a monitor, you might just need to use HDMI. This 950, Displayport or DVI monitor can be connected to a graphics card.
