Yes, I think a DIYer could achieve the same result with a paper clip, but I feel uncomfortable putting paper clips into the diagnostic reader's binding posts. Sounds like something I'd screw up and do more damage than I'm willing to fix on a 27 year old truck. and besides, this thing was only about $30. Anyway, it worked as advertised. bad EGR valve. swapped and all is good. (1994 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado)
