I bought this router because generally the more you spend the better product and this was basically advertised as the best of the best. That is not right. I've had the router less than a day and found that it doesn't broadcast any of the 5GHz channels. I tried every possible fix I knew of and nothing worked. So I called ASUS tech support and they told me all the troubleshooting steps I did and then they said the router is broken so I need to replace it. So I sent it back and ordered a replacement. Waited a week for a replacement. I got a replacement and it has the same damn problem. However, on my backup router, I was able to tune into the 5GHz channel that was not broadcasting in N-only mode, and it seems to work in that mode. You won't pay more than $350 for it. It is advertised as an AC router and all 5GHz bands must conform to the AC standard. Why should I pay full price for a new car without rims? So either their QA doesn't exist or they have a firmware issue. I'm hoping that a future firmware update will fix this issue, but this should have been tested by now. You will notice problems once the device is turned on and booted up. In case you don't know, the N standard has a maximum speed of 450Mbps while the AC standard has a maximum speed of 1300Mbps. That's why I'm not happy with the condition of my router. Of course, the other 5GHz band works under the AC standard, but paying $350 I expect the router to work EXACTLY as advertised with no troubleshooting. Customer service was acceptable, although her heavy Indian accent makes it difficult for me to understand her. I spoke to at least two service people and both of them were very difficult to understand as ASUS has outsourced their tech support to India. Nothing against it, except that they are difficult to understand. They've been helpful, but I don't like being told every time I call and then a few days later they call me and ask me to fill out a survey to let me know how I rate my services. I think their service model forces service reps to spend their time asking people to take surveys instead of being more focused on their work. This is just my opinion. To update. After talking to support for two weeks they fell silent, so I now have a partially working router. Never buy an ASUS router again. And I hope I never have to speak to their useless customer service again.
