Review on S27A950D 27" Samsung Monitor: Full HD, 3D Display, LS27A950DS/ZA by Sebastian Hamilton

This is a great monitor, but they have serious quality control issues. The first monitor I had had horrible bruises in the top right corner and all the colors in that corner of the screen were greyed out. I was sent a replacement and this monitor has about an inch of bleeding on the right side along the bezel. There is also some bleeding in the lower left corner. I sent a second replacement so I'm hoping one doesn't have screen defects. I'm not downgrading the score for these issues as overall image quality is excellent despite some slight bleeding. I haven't played around with the 3D part of the monitor yet, but the 120Hz refresh rate is amazing. I've been playing games on a 60Hz monitor for a while and had no idea how much 120Hz would affect the overall gameplay. I was a bit concerned that everything would have a soap opera effect like 120Hz TVs, but I was pleasantly surprised that the picture didn't look like it. Everything is smooth, but doesn't look unnatural, and games seem to run better because your computer doesn't need to limit FPS to match your refresh rate (VSYNC) or display more frames than your monitor can handle (no screen tearing). If you're buying this for gaming, make sure you have a powerful enough rig to run games at 60fps and above. I have two EVGA 570s in SLI and they are working very hard to render the extra frame rate and my card temperatures are much higher than at 60.1 fps with vsync enabled. Overall the monitor is great and worth the money. Price tag if you manage to get one with no screen defects. Make sure you buy it from Revain so you don't have to keep returning it. I'll keep swapping them until I get one with no light bleeding and I suggest you do the same.
