Review on πŸ” Rare Find: Insteon 2242-222 Hub - Limited Edition Collectible! by Pedro Curtis

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Instead of buying Insteon, buy a competitor's product. Or just smack yourself in the face and save money.

The Insteon hub is a terrible combination of good idea and bad execution. The hardware itself is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and looks durable. The software required to connect everything and effectively manage the system is a war crime. First, if your center is offline, you won't be able to log into your account. That means if your hub bites the farm or you have to reset (and generate a new unique API key), your account is useless. You can't just log in and change the hub in your account, and you can't remove the hub from your account and then set it up from scratch. You have two options: 1) use a different email address and create a new account, or 2) call support and wait an hour or more just to speak to support and try then to persuade him to delete your account for you so you can set up the account again using your email address. This company does not have a single competent software developer. The .NET code on their website is awful and buggy, their smartphone apps are buggy and lack basic, sane usability features, and the software that runs their hub itself (firmware) is archaic and full of artifacts from before incarnations. Concept. If you're thinking of buying Insteon, don't. If you want to try home automation, look elsewhere.
