I bought a used version of the INSTEON hub and so far have had no problems with it except one. First of all, it integrated seamlessly into my existing INSTEON installation. I was also curious if this would work with the free advanced Smarthome Houselinc automation software and it does! (It's a little tricky to set up Houselinc, but using Houselinc is optional.) After reading the many reviews on this hub I have to assume that Insteon have implemented many fixes for the mentioned problems. My installation went exactly as described in the instructions. The Insteon hub is a terrible combination of good idea and bad execution. The hardware itself is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and looks durable. The software required to connect everything and effectively manage the system is a war crime. First, if your center is offline, you won't be able to log into your account. That means if your hub bites the farm or you have to reset (and generate a new unique API key), your account is useless. You can't just log in and change the hub in your…

I'm an IT support professional with 20 years of experience and I can honestly say that the frustration I've experienced with this product compares to some of the worst is . My first Insteon Hub arrived defective. Didn't show up on the network, the IOS software couldn't find it, the network port on the device stayed enabled whether it was connected or not.
