Caran D'Ache's palette works well with all types of watercolor pencils or their ink blocks. You can also use it for water soluble graphite. I would also consider using it with pan pastel or in place of the little scrap paper used for water or dry medium mixing paints. The size is ideal for storing anywhere or in a bag to take outdoors or when traveling. It is painted with some watercolors in the same way that any plastic is painted with watercolors. Stains can be easily removed with a magic sponge and some washing-up liquid.
