Review on Premium Swiss Leather Turntable Mat - Sandstone - Platter Mat Made In USA by Simon Nugroho

Value and sound improvement

Some of my audiophile friends advised me to try a new mat on my RP25. I have never owned anything other than the original felt mat. These things can cost upwards of $100. So I was grateful and really wanted to try the HHF leather mat for around $30. I've used their isolating footers with good results. In my experience, a good tuning is one where I don't have to strain or question my ears to hear an improvement in sound. Tweaks are also cumulative. The more you can isolate vibration, eliminate static, dust, etc., the better ANY system will sound, even (sometimes especially) inexpensive. My humble, but not entry-level class. It's more dark than light. The HHF leather mat does the job perfectly. IA/Bd old felt pad with HHF leather, using well-known albums from several genres. What I hear is music emanating from a clearer background. The sound production is more pronounced. The bass in particular is tighter and more articulated. It makes sense. the plates simply stick better to the skin and are more stable on the RP25 glass plate. Some people dismiss such statements as subjective. I think the ability to spot subtle differences comes from critical listening. I did NOT have to "emphasise" or question the improvements I've heard about this rug. No, it wasn't like replacing a pickup or buying a $20,000 amp. However, the improvement was audible and the value for money was excellent. Other reviewers noted a certain "amateur" making of this product. Carpet a bit uneven. No big deal to me. It goes well with the RP25 and looks good. That's slightly less than the advertised 12 inches in circumference. Should fit the vast majority of cymbals. I had minimal static issues with a standard felt mat. This is currently completely absent with this leather carpet. The different materials used for turntable mats have their pros and cons. Depends on what you want to achieve and how you like your music. If you want a precise, clean, organic sound (not too bright or muffled, but natural and balanced), try the HHF leather mat. Very important. I am very comfortable. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Minor repairability
