Review on AOC C24G1: Ultra-Smooth 144Hz Frameless DisplayPort Monitor with Height, Pivot, and Tilt Adjustments by Michael Morgan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I would say a very well made monitor

As the name suggests, this is a well-made monitor from AOC. Which, to be honest, really surprised me, since most AOC monitors are budget, that is, cheaper in quality but better in price. This monitor, on the other hand, outperforms almost every level of VA display. It probably helps that the panel they use is owned by Samsung themselves. Regardless, it works as it should in terms of control over sharpness, contrast ratio, color reproduction, gamma level, response time, input lag and more. Of course, always test any monitor you buy on the lagom.nl/lcd-test website, as this will help you get the right picture quality. Also consider using the Blur Effect UFO Test Toolkit as it will help you adjust the overdrive settings on your monitor. In this particular case, "medium" overdrive should work fine for any variable refresh rate/free sync. Luckily, most of the default settings work fine for this particular monitor and don't require large adjustments to achieve optimal values. Overall, I highly recommend this monitor, especially for those who have been using IPS panels for most of their lives. Because the VA contrast ratio is particularly high compared to a conventional IPS panel. With most IPS panels you get blacks that are more grayish black than "true" black in depth, and vice versa with VA panels. They become inky. It should also be noted that FreeSync works great with both this monitor and the NVIDIA graphics card. Plus, as some reviewers have pointed out, there aren't any issues with sharpness, and viewing angles are top-notch; They are not as good as IPS panels, but clearly superior to TN panels.
