I have used traditional steels, hard and soft Arkansas stones and a modern Wüsthof sharpener for my kitchen knives. As a seasoned woodworker, I'm used to sharpening tools with stones, but the need for oil for this purpose is a bit annoying. This inexpensive kit gives results at least as good as any other approach, and water for smearing comes in very handy. The grit combination has been well chosen to make replacing old knives easy and sharpening to a very sharp blade.
