Although the radio came without a programming cable, I already have UV-5R series radios for other purposes. The first thing you need to do before playing around with this radio is download the latest firmware. Fixes many issues rated poorly by others. I have used UV-5R before and knew someone who has UV-5X and I expect they will work just as well as they do. Good radio for everyday use and if you break or lose it you only lose $25.
