CTCSS Tone LOCKED for Radio

Good only if you use these ready-made devices together or if the other person you are communicating with cannot set their CTCSS Tones. These radios are blocked by the 67Hz CTCSS tone, which is usually "Privacy Code" 1 on most GMRS radios. I'm good at programming Baofeng radios and I can't set up PL tones. I sent the radio back because it doesn't work for me.

Pros
  • Durable Test Results
Cons
  • Minor Repairability

do it first! Buy programming cable and update firmware

Although the radio came without a programming cable, I already have UV-5R series radios for other purposes. The first thing you need to do before playing around with this radio is download the latest firmware. Fixes many issues rated poorly by others. I have used UV-5R before and knew someone who has UV-5X and I expect they will work just as well as they do. Good radio for everyday use and if you break or lose it you only lose $25.

can't program: CB and radios

these radios look great and look like uv5r but it's not yet possible to get them to communicate with uv5r i have used the programmer for uv5r with no success tried, i updated the firmware now all i can do is i'm at a loss and there doesn't seem to be any help for these things except people on youtube. Factory radios only talk to each other with limited range, uv5r works with chirp, they don't even dial uv5r in chirp, the firmware in uv5x is not good yet, so these radios are only good for . talk

Cannot be programmed for chirp patterns and repeater signals.

I bought these radios to prepare for a search and rescue situation. I studied the reviews and features of this device, and it seemed to me that it fits into the checklist. Two-way band, ability to work with GMRS repeaters. The problem I had was that these radios could not be programmed. This means he didn't download the "Chirp" pattern and couldn't program the channels. I don't know if those actual elements were broken in his software, so I tried a second device but got the same results. Ifโ€ฆ

Decent GMRS radio, best in CB and talkback

Let me start by saying that to legally use this GMRS radio you need a GMRS license. Obtaining a GMRS license is very easy. There are many videos online showing you how to get a GMRS license. This is a China-made GMRS radio with a limited budget. A good choice if you're looking for something to take with you and not have to worry about losing or dropping it. The radio in question is pre-programmed with 22 FRS/GMRS channels and 8 repeater channels. Which of these 30 channels use memory locationsโ€ฆ

Worked great. Lots of features

I used these on a week long fishing trip in Montana and they worked great. I knew they weren't waterproof and one of them got wet when I fell in the water while wading. The radio went haywire, but I took out the battery, let it dry for a day, and it's working fine again. This radio has many great features. The ability to program channels outside of the GMRS frequencies is great for listening purposes. Obviously due to FCC requirements he will not be broadcasting on those channels. The lightโ€ฆ

Cheap, good, but for God's sake upgrade.

First, it is small, tiny, if you are over two meters tall and not from China, you need to get an extended battery, it is not even necessary. It doubles the grip. The antenna sucks, but the radio itself is great. The included "duck" is static, noisy, and barely tuned to the operating spectrum. Just understand that the quality of the radio depends on the quality of the antenna and get the Nagoya 771 (the one specifically for GMRS, not HAM. Sorry this site doesn't sell it). These upgrades doubleโ€ฆ

Works but could be better

Received late March 2021. They worked instantly to communicate between devices. But you couldn't program them for repeaters and more complex scenarios. I had to buy a cable to update them and fix issues with the originally released version. That's an additional $18 and a few days. Please note that a PC is required for the update. I have a Mac and had to play around with PC virtualization to update devices. I couldn't find a menu that shows the version number of the firmware. After the updateโ€ฆ

Decent entry-level GMRS kits

First of all, my chargers overheated and melted. QC is not a strong point here. YMMV. Like all lithium-ion batteries, do not leave them unattended. Second is the UV-5X GMRS radio upgrade, which is itself an upgrade/frequency dependent version of the ubiquitous UV-5R, amateur radio. . YOU NEED AN AMATEUR LICENSE TO USE THIS MODEL. You need a license for that too, but the GMRS license is only $70 (soon to be $35), no exam. I see a lot of reviews from people who buy business and amateur radios for

  • Questionable purchase for seniors
