Pleasantly Surprised

Looking at reviews of this and similar attachments made me really concerned, but this weekend I used it to make 35 linear feet of cherry profile to finish off my kitchen cabinets. It took about 2 hours and was the easiest part of the job. I cut the bodice 7/32" low which was perfect for the look I wanted, so I can't comment on the success with lower cuts. The drill bit cut clean and I had very few cracks and required minimal sanding, but I suspect I would have had more if working with maple as I often get tears from routers and 220 grit maple paper. And technique is just as important as that bit, so here's a table top for a table router and a railing mounted on a homemade table that holds a 2 1/4 HP Porter cable router. with a fixed base. with freshly planed oak. The height of the bit was increased 1/8" above the table, and all workpieces were at least 2 1/2" high, leaving 1/8" of material in contact with the guard both above and below the bit. Springboards were used. to hold the wood firmly against the fence before and after drilling. Parentheses were not used. For lengths over 6 feet, an inlet and outlet support (a simple single roller bearing) was required on each side to support the weight of the bit. Wood due to the tilt of the board and damage to the last few centimetres. the first pass to the final depth, with the last pass removing the last 1/16 inch of depth (removable shims were used to provide this depth).
