I got on the Pi train over a year ago and was amazed at what SBC (single board computers) can do. Without hesitation or foresight, I bought a 10.1 inch screen and built my first little retro box. Now I understand that the prices for ready-made systems are not far off, but I was attracted by the satisfaction with the project. Now with all this greatness came my disappointment. because while the Pi offered a tiny desktop, my "system" wasn't even remotely portable or handheld, since both the Pi and my display require power supplies. Fast forward to Christmas 2019 and I've stumbled upon Wave Share's gem. , and the PI43 isn't what I consider cheap (and it doesn't feel like it), but hobbyists should be more than happy to be able to create a commercial-looking product given its features. Recalbox is easy to install but not as customizable as my previous build with Retropie. But for the inexperienced, this is a great place to start. Simple but functional button layout, including buttons on the back for over-the-shoulder operation. Battery operated (2x18650) Built-in screen with brightness and volume control buttons Although it feels bulky at first (think Andrรฉ the giant Gameboy), it actually fits my hand (medium to large) quite snugly as it's a simple box acts. Access to all ports Power button Cons It's large as a portable system isn't as easy to carry around (I wouldn't just throw it in a backpack) The top covers the HDMI for using an external monitor (it's modifiable though) The Back uses screws, wish it could have seen magnets or whatever - something else for quick release and battery swapping on the fly. When I first got it, I could keep playing after unplugging the charging cable, but this function doesn't work at the moment. Recalbox works smoothly. I haven't been able to get the controls to work with Retropie (although my steel series works fine). The cons might seem a little picky but to be honest I use it every day and would love to see this hat updated in the future. At the moment my PI43 works well as a downtime killer, remote terminal penetration tester and network vulnerability mapper. (THANK YOU Berry Boot and KL)
