Cappers and Caps = GARBAGE

My wife and I are new to home brewing but we have learned our process very carefully and well and there is nothing more frustrating than knowing we got it right but worrying too make sure the lids are not open after closing. We have brewed 3 times and each time the capping process has been the most difficult and miserable part of the experience. Literally every single time, for every single cap and every single bottle, the capper is not going to catch the cap properly and push down on the bottle unless I spend a minute or two pre-curving each cap with my fingers. And even then I have to fight the cork until it's pushed all the way through and I'm 99% sure the cap is secure. Luckily after all this work, all 30 bottles of beer we spilled survived. But there were a few instances where we just touched the lid while the beer was moving (before opening it) and we heard air escaping. So while we didn't drink a single beer completely, we're not sure that every cap was properly attached. As this was our first bottling set we have no way of knowing if the problem was one of two things or both: 1) the caps do not fit securely on the bottles and are too wide for the capper to properly grip (again however , pre-bending is a real problem and does not completely solve the problem), or 2) there is a bug in the capping machine that is preventing caps from being properly captured. I'm talking about using brute force to the point where you're afraid of breaking the bottle or damaging the cap. Even after pre-bending the caps. If you are new to the process I would not recommend risking this kit. You don't want your hard work to go to waste because of this junk. Only giving 2 stars because I can't say anything bad about the bottles. ;)

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad but...
