This product does exactly what it says it does. This slows the rate at which my tailgate lowers and kills that awkward "pop". I've had it on my F-150 for a while now and haven't noticed any change in performance since installing it. To be honest, I cheated a bit during the installation. I asked Ford service to install the product during my regular service (thanks guys for the extra customer service). Buy this product, make an appointment for service, ask a service technician for "a little help", enjoy this product and write a good review. because you're no longer "SLAM"-heavy.
