Review on Nobsound TPA3116 Channel Digital Amplifier by Mark Gilbert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Powerful Small Amplifier

This is a very worthy Class D audio amp. Unlike many of the other products on Revain and other websites that make unsubstantiated claims for maximum power output, the information in Revain's listing for the Nobsound amp is correct - as through The review of the TPA3116D2 was confirmed datasheet on the TI website. The case is made of aluminum and measures about 4.25 inches. x 3.5" x 1.5" without protrusions, such as volume controls and speaker terminals. The fit and finish appear to be of a very high quality with no roughness or sharp edges. The speaker connections are male. The device has a decent weight for its size and even comes with four small plastic feet attached to the bottom. The power indicator is an unobtrusive and very small red LED, which I prefer to the bright blue power LEDs that many manufacturers seem to use. I have tested this amp with a 12V 6A and 18V 5A power supply I have not tested it with a 24V power supply as my application does not require very high volume. (If I test it at 24V in the future I'll update this review.) If you need really loud volume according to the TI datasheet, This amp can only deliver 2 x 50W into a 4 ohm load with a 21V supply, which is very important. impressive. After a few hours of operation of the amplifier at a "reasonable” volume, the case does not even heat up. I've listened to quite a few Class D amps in the past and have been dissatisfied with the sound quality of many of them, especially at the high frequencies. After listening to a number of vinyl records from my music collection, the Nobsound amp showed significantly better sound quality and less distortion than other mini/micro amps I've tried in the past, especially when paired with quality speakers. The data sheet on TI's website states that the TPA3166D2 is capable of Deliver up to 2 x 40W into 4 ohm speakers with less than 0.3% THD when using a 24V power supply. that when using a 12V input source, the THD increases rapidly after about 10W (for 4 ohm speakers) or 6W (for 8 ohm speakers). So if you really want to get more power out of this amp, especially into 8 ohm speakers. Make sure you invest in an 18-24V power supply capable of delivering at least 5 amps of current. Update 10/13/2016: I tested this amp with a 24V 5A switching power supply and the result is even more impressive. Paired with a pair of efficient speakers, it can get really loud with a 24V power supply - and with minimal distortion until clipping sets in. inch woofers and two 3 inch horn tweeters. The Nobosound amp sounds decent even with these cheap cellar boxes. This combo is quite possibly the best gain setup you can put together for less than $70. Ohm speakers and seem very good for this amp. As expected, treble and clarity were better thanks to AMT's tweeter, but the bass also sounded significantly better. For Class D amplifiers, optimal sound requires a good match between the amplifier's output filter and the speaker configuration impedance, and the B652-AIR speakers and TPA3116 board used in this amplifier seem to be very good.
