Low for a reason!

Note that these filters are INTENDED to be installed 1/2 inch down for a reason! House like ours, then cheap builders take as many detours as possible and just cut a hole in the HVAC duct and put the filter in the gap. Channels are measured from the outside and the filter must fit. Often referred to as "US" size filters. If you have a high quality home with a fully fabricated filter housing, you will most likely need full size filters to fill the hole. Filters made abroad (IE - China) are precisely measured to label size and work great with "GENUINE" filter housings. Walk down to your local discount store and buy the XYZ brand and Bob will be your uncle. Normally that would be fine. With building standards in this country allowing 2" x 4" lumber to be 1-3/4" x 3-3/4" the so-called reason is that lumber is measured before final shaping today, earlier but not. Building codes also do not require a sealed filter housing, so our very expensive home had a huge hole cut in the duct side for each of our two HVAC systems, drawing a large amount of air into the hole, bypassing the filter air. The one in the attic sucks in cold air in the winter, hot air in the summer and sucks in dust, fiberglass particles and everything in the attic of the house. We need to buy smaller filters, glue the filter to the holes and repeat as many times as needed. This is when nothing is standard unless you ask for it yourself in writing when you commission an HVAC system or buy a home. Buy a cabin from one of the nation's great home builders, get crap for filter housings, and fall in love with NP filters. We like US sized (smaller sized) filters like the Nordic Pure, otherwise we have to spend time downsizing reduced HD/L filters while doing our own engineering project of the month.
