The 6 points refer to the interior angles, not the length.
This is a fairly inexpensive power socket. Remember that the dots refer to the inside corners of the socket or wrench. The 6-point is slightly stronger than the 12-point, but the 12-point has more positions to adjust. This mistake is easy to make if you are not used to it. The only problem is that the shipping cost is almost the same as the outlet. Not such a good deal, after all.
