Review on Dynomax 51022 Hardware Connector Flex by Maurice Jimenez

Good solution to a common problem, but check your car, it can get really tight.

I bought this part to replace a fast wearing flex pipe section on my 2008 Saturn Astra. Since this part of my exhaust is very expensive, around $230, this replacement part is a good alternative in terms of cost. It can be inserted and welded or even clamped in the same place where the original part is removed. It fits the pipe well, but be careful, for my application it is a very short piece, almost too short. The old section needs to be cut very close to the good section of pipe on both sides for this new piece to work. When the muffler shop fixes my exhaust pipe tomorrow, they'll probably have to weld short pieces of pipe to each end to get the system to the correct length. If the length is incorrect (too short or even too long), there may be problems with the underbody moving freely at other points in the system. Also, as I mentioned, it appears to be designed to clamp, but I don't see any way that this method of attachment would work. It's just too short for that. If it were made just an inch longer, it would be the perfect replacement for my Saturn, both visually and functionally. There are other replacement sections sold by other vendors elsewhere that are longer at each end meaning a short length of tubing comes out of the middle braided section. However, they are almost too long as I would have to cut off part of the tailpipe to keep the sensor from going into the existing tailpipe. This flexible tubing will work, I hope it doesn't take a lot of 'fine tuning' to find the right fit. It doesn't appear to be designed for heavy use. like the original part, but with a one-year warranty. Update: That only lasted two years.

Pros
  • An inexpensive repair option without replacing the entire exhaust
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
