Review on CORSAIR Obsidian Mid Tower Tempered Aluminum by Antonio Cummings

That's actually a good deal

Great and very well made case! I say this case is actually a bargain simply because it comes with three LL-120 RGB fans with a fan hub and a Corsair Commander Pro. If you buy the Commander Pro separately, it costs around $64, while a pack of three Corsair LL-120 fans with hub is $110. That's the $174 I would spend if I bought these items individually. Subtracting the cost of these items from the price of the suitcase is like saying I paid $76 for the suitcase. In any case, the glass on the case is smoky black and beautiful. The panes of glass on the left and right are like doors that swing open and are held in place by magnets. There are door hinges on the back of the case that attach with a single screw, allowing the sides to be removed. These doors are the best feature of the case. I make good use of the included Commander Pro, fan hub and three LL-120 fans. I have a total of six fans running (4 LL-120 (three were powered on) and two LL-140), all connected to Commander Pro and a fan hub, so there's no problem here. Overall the airflow is amazing! There are also fan filters that are attached to the bottom, front, and top of the case. It is possible to mount the GPU vertically on the case if you buy a PCI Express extension cable. If you're using an air-cooled card, I would advise against it, since there's not much space between the case and the graphics card when installed vertically, and the fans don't have enough air. My graphics card easily noticed a temperature rise of over 40 degrees C in a vertical setup. Cable management is decent in this case, but my only gripe is that there's a removable duct to hide the cables inside, and it can be a real PITA that all fan/power cables run through. It took a lot of patience and zip ties to get all the cables into the duct. It was worth it in the end as it adds to the aesthetics of the case. The fan hub and Commander Pro can be positioned anywhere on the case, but these items are taped to the case. Magnets would be a better choice in my opinion. Finding a place to put these items can also be a challenge. I removed one of the hard drive brackets to attach these items to the case. Whoever decided to box my hull eventually decided it would be a good idea to attach the Corsair Commander to the inside of one of the glass doors before shipping. That. It wasn't fun pulling the commander away from the door. The tape stuck to the glass pane really well and I thought I was going to break open the door! Anyway, I also had to use Goo Gone to get the residue off the glass, so I was a little annoyed. Luckily I was able to use the same tape to stick the Commander Pro back onto the case so the quality of the glue is really good. However, I'm not deducting a star for that. Given the cost, good looks, airflow, gullwing doors, and overall build quality of the case, it's not hard to say that this is the best case I've had to date. There are only two USB ports and one USB-C port on the front of the case. In this case, there is no option to install an internal DVD/Blue-Ray drive, so keep that in mind.

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • Bad set
