Olympus voice recorders are very easy to use. Pretty intuitive to use. How nice! This device would be perfect, 5 stars but due to the lack of a few key features for me. (I mainly use it to record live music.) 1. Built-in speaker, playback, sound quality is disappointing. If it were bigger, like their DP-10 model, maybe that would be a way to solve it. In the meantime, you can use headphones. This improves the sound to excellent. 2. The other input jack above is for an alternative microphone. Thus, it would be possible to record a higher quality signal (although there are no particular complaints about the built-in sound). The problem with switching to an external microphone is that you lose the stereo image. Your built-in stereo mics will be skipped for a monaural mic. That's all the socket on the device can hold. The rest of the WS-821 is excellent, including the USB connector for copying data to a computer; recording capacity 500 hours; and speed change playback (no pitch change!). Its compactness is also a marvel. The battery life (a AAA) is sufficient for operation. The display is fine. In addition, you can access many other features such as Such as changing the recording quality, recording start speed, etc., based on your specific needs.
