Review on Schaaf Wood Carving Tools Set - 12 Full Size Gouges and Chisels for Beginners and Professionals, with Canvas Case - Sharp, Quality-Tested CR-V 60 Steel Blades by Bridgett Walls

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not only did they not come out sharp, but the bit angles aren't as advertised or consistent.

I find sharpening extremely therapeutic when a blade or chisel becomes dull after use, and it's rewarding when you can join white oak like butter after removing the last drill bit to have. (Advertised as, "Don't buy if you don't sharpen your tools.") The one thing I hate about sharpening is sharpening at the right angle to hardened steel. These bits are so inconsistent when it comes to corners. Most of the nicks were formed at an angle greater than 35 degrees and were not even remotely sharp. To be able to use them for carving without banging a piece of wood with a hammer, I'd have to re-sand each corner and spend hours just sharpening properly. With this set you get what you pay for. Don't waste your money, buy 3-4 Arrow Chisels for $30 more than this set and spend time carving, not grinding.

Pros
  • I have my fingers crossed
Cons
  • Not as thick as others
