Tips From Successful Installation

I comment not usually but i thought it might help everyone when thinking about the task ahead they call them email instructions do it now with the air spring one should also be aware that no shock cap has to be installed and none of the old air spring can be reused (someone commented on here that this was the case, but for me it was wrong for this version of the part supplied.) The box contains a rigid seal - it's important to know Note that the rigid gasket has a curved edge and a flat edge Place the flat edge DOWN first, the curved edge comes next to the gasket negative ring and bends the o-ring against the bottom of the air spring of pushing in position. This is nowhere to be seen, but if this seal is inverted, a sharp edge will cut the o-ring and shorten its life. Also, take some o-ring lube with you - don't use motor oil etc. This will also reduce the life of the o-ring. Secondly, here are some helpful tips for mounting on the front of a Mercedes. You will need a good jack, jack stands and wheel blocks to raise the front of the car. Vehicles using these air springs are not lightweight, so don't be stupid - take care of yourself. You will need a breaker (25 inch is best) and a ball joint disconnect. If you do not have these or professional impact wrenches, etc., this work is not possible. Also, you either need a special tool to push on the top of the air spring to remove the locking ring, or you need to install something in its place. I used a socket from a set of socket wrenches to tighten the shock nut, a metal rod on top of it, and long steel rod clamps between the metal rod and the U-shaped part of the shock to compress the shock and loosen the retainer ring. Third, tips on how to work. Clean the vehicle and wash the wheel well to remove accumulated road grime. I would recommend removing the plastic cover in the wheel arch afterwards. I would not remove the top three nuts that hold the shock to the last. Unclip them, but leave them in place until you're ready to remove them. You will need someone to help you with the installation to tighten the same nuts while holding the shock underneath. Take photos when putting things away. Use ziplock bags to keep items organized. DO NOT TIGHTEN TOP AIR SUPPLY DURING INSTALLATION - this may damage the small o-ring on the union nut. Keep the o-rings clean during installation - any grit that gets into the grease can cause a slow leak. It's quite a long afternoon job for one side if you're moving at my speed (slow and steady). Pretty interesting challenge, pretty good practice and good repair for me. Much luck!
