Review on Zoo Med Laboratories Repti Therm Habitat Heater - 40-Watt SZMRH20 by Angela Santos

Great for sulcata but will need a thermostat when repurchasing

My 4 year old sulcata (14" long) loves to lie on it and tends to move her around a lot in his cage. He's not currently in an aviary for me to pin him in (we've moved and he's in a very makeshift location while we build something new), but I highly encourage you to do so if you can . The pad is fairly light and my friend can slide it with some ease which can end up pulling the cords and all into his body. I'm not worried about electrical issues (he doesn't chew), but I do check him regularly to make sure he hasn't wired his leg. I bought an infrared device to get the surface temperature and without a thermostat it's around 110F. Too hot. I couldn't keep my hand on the hot spots for long, so I knew my rut shouldn't be on them either. I'm trying to keep it around 85, which I couldn't manage without buying a sensored thermostat (I've used a Zoo Med ReptiTemp 500R remote sensored thermostat and it works great, although unfortunately you also buy an infrared temperature sensor have to). to tell you what temperature it's running at, since you can only switch from the high to the low setting). However, the sensor can't actually be attached to the pillow, so I had to glue it in place. Any suggestions on how else I could do this? It works for now, but it's messy. Cushion made of durable hard plastic. Great for warts. I'm not worried about him ruining this and the cable is rated for heavy loads.

Pros
  • 1 year limited warranty
Cons
  • boring packaging
