Rocker cover gasket fits my WRX perfectly

This rocker cover gasket fits my WRX perfectly. The old gasket hardened (nothing lasts forever, right?) and oil started seeping into the exhaust. It wasn't much, but enough that you could smell burning oil as the exhaust got hot. It usually burned off while I was driving and the smell was most noticeable when I stopped at intersections but disappeared as the oil burned off. Every time the car was stopped overnight, a few more drops of oil dripped onto the exhaust, and the whole stinky process of burned oil started all over again. This pad did the job. I would say make sure you clean the sealing faces really well. The valve cover is relatively easy to clean as it can be removed and cleaned outdoors. but the surface of the head where the valve cover is attached is quite difficult to clean completely when the engine is in the car. I don't really like rubber gloves when working on cars (I prefer to feel the parts I'm working on and I think I can wash my hands afterwards), but rubber gloves would be useful here as the back of the hand and the fingers are rubbed quite hard, if they've been rubbing against the thing falling between the motor and the inner wing to clean the surface that the gasket abuts. There really isn't much room to walk in and clear, but it's possible. I think it was mainly the sharp edges of the cameras that scratched and cut me, but if I had rubber gloves my hands would probably be in better shape afterwards. Since the boxer engine is horizontal, it was also difficult to remove the bottom edge of the oil, right where the valve cover joins (just above the exhaust). I raised the passenger side with a jack and put a stand under it to try to drain any remaining oil on the other side. It may have helped a bit, but it seemed like the residual oil flow was still steady but slow and kept getting in where the seal should sit. All I had to do was time it right by pre-installing the gasket in the valve cover, then quickly wiping the oil off the mating surface and doing my best to wipe the oil out of the nooks and crannies where it was leaking (using Q-Tips). , then quickly wipe a clean rag with brake cleaner to really keep it clean, then close the valve cover before the oil spills onto the interface between the valves. cover and head. Then after you bolted the valve cover, I used a degreaser to remove excess oil from the exhaust pipe (as best I could). Then reassemble everything in reverse order of how you took it apart and run. It took a while for the burnt oil smell to completely go away but it's been a few weeks now and I can get my hand under the bottom of the valve cover and it's dry so no more leak! Good luck and health! !
