I have been using IOGear GBC232A for my projects and spent $70 each on them. Shame I didn't hear about this device sooner - it does exactly the same thing for a fraction of the price. I've only been using it for < 24 hours, but so far it's working just as well as IOGear. It also defaults to a reasonable 9600, 8N1 so it works out of the box for me without any adjustments, while IOGear defaults to 19200. One problem is that I have to use it with devices where a straight through cable would normally work. Connect a null modem gender changer to this box instead of the normal one they include - don't you know why they just don't include a null modem instead? UPDATE 2/13/2021 - So far I have purchased and deployed about 20 of these units which have been shipped to various customers over the past few months. So far one has just died after a few weeks of use and the other has balked/refusing to connect out of the box. 10% marriage is a lot.
